UNSPLASH
A Letter To Millennials
Dear Millennials,
We are a whole group of young people- men and women aged from 18 to 33, which the world calls a lost generation. We are given the title of out-spoken, headstrong and selfish or narcissistic. I agree with most of these traits but that doesn’t mean that we are bad. I believe we are given a life that our older generation can’t quite understand. They are not grown up in the environment that we are. They had a totally different environment and everything was slow and easy. There has been a dramatic turn from their young life to ours.
We are way more independent and determined to fulfill our dreams and aspirations for our future. These traits of ours do make us little selfish. We are the first generation of digital revolution.
Every single one of us has a smartphone with us. Whether we like it or not we have adopted this habit of relying on these smartphones for everything. We actually have no idea what we are going to do without these. Some say that these make us go out of touch from the outer world, but we have never been so in touch with the world. From these smartphones all the research, answers, directions and news we are connected to everything. All the information is right at our fingertips.
It’s true that we absolutely love to spend our money. We live in today so we don’t believe in the saving culture like our parents or grandparents. We are not in any hurry to settle down with somebody/someplace or buy a home. We are not very greedy as we are not just spending money mindlessly. We spend on things which we want like traveling, food etc. We don’t live in future; we just want to enjoy our lives today.
Yes, Social media has a significant amount of space in our lives. We just can’t resist using these as who don’t like to promote one’s life and stay connected with the world at the same time. We take inspirations from these platforms and try to make our lives better and perform well in our lives. These sites have all kinds of posts like family, love, goals etc. These things encourage us and make us outspoken and comfortable with the person we are.
We millennial’s are not in any kind of hurry to spend our lives with someone or reproduce. But this doesn’t make any of us selfish because that doesn’t mean that we don’t plan on doing that someday. For now, we have far more important things to do. We just want to be good storytellers to our kids.
We have a mantra of “do what makes you happy”. We live by this and we don’t tell us otherwise. If something is adding no value to our lives, then we don’t want to be part of that. It is our ability to stay away from all the negativity of others. We deserve the best and our happiness does matters to us. But this doesn’t mean that we don’t care about the world. We want to be happy so that we can make the whole world happy.
All the millennial members, I think we are going to be okay.
Lovingly Yours,
A Fellow Millenial.
